Kushagar Garg

Founder, Meard AI · Open source contributor

Hey, I'm Kushagar . I run Meard AI — an independent lab for nonprofit research and open-source ML — and contribute upstream when the bugs are real.

I learn by shipping: agent infrastructure, local tools, and patches in the wild.

    Founder

    Meard AI

    Jul 2025 – Present

Started an independent AI lab focused on nonprofit research and open-source machine learning. Quiet by design — the work shows up in code, not press releases.

    • Set up Meard as a nonprofit-leaning lab for open models and research tooling.
    • Built and ship infrastructure experiments (including agent routing work) when they are ready to leave the lab.
    More
    • Keep the surface small: OSS first, no marketing theater.

    @MDAnalysis@AWS CLI@Google@Anthropic@CNCF@SakanaAI

    Aug 2025 – Present

Contributing to real codebases across scientific Python, cloud tooling, agent systems, and infrastructure graphs — fixing crashes, graph bugs, and silent failures where they actually hurt users.

    • MDAnalysis: Made the MOL2 reader pull unit-cell size from CRYSIN records, and added benchmarks so HydrogenBondAnalysis and the PDB reader stay honest under load.
    • AWS CLI: Stopped a NameError that crashed shorthand-parse error messages (shipped in v1.45.34), and fixed configure get so section values print instead of erroring.
    More
    • Claude Code (Anthropic): Tracked down a triage script that exited under set -euo pipefail with no message, and made the pipeline report what went wrong.
    • Cartography (CNCF): Fixed Route53 sync so DNS→IP links actually show up in the graph, and moved the OpenSearch intel path off a deprecated boto3 client.
    • Google Migration Planner: Found a TypeError that was swallowing real Microsoft Graph errors in batch logging, so failures show the API message again.
    • SakanaAI & sktime: Corrected a reward average in an RL loop, and landed three skbase maintenance fixes (pre-commit pin, noisy tests, sparse-matrix compares).
